GIS Analyst

LOGIX Communications is highly focused on our Fiber network and infrastructure expansion. The daily routine of this position includes designing routes, clustering buildings, utilizing GIS data, analytics, surveying estimating costs, and CAD production along with permit development and filing.

The individual in this position is responsible for designing and producing Outside Plant (OSP) CAD work plans, and associated work package documents in coordination with other engineering department personnel. Qualified individuals are experienced in designing, drafting buried, aerial, and underground telecommunications cable systems in OSPI. Applicant must have a background in GIS software applications and have experience with drafting plan and profiles for street cuts and road bores. Candidate must be familiar with OSP Engineering standards, practices, and construction methods.

Job Duties

  • Provides developmental support and implementation of GIS application software
  • Complete design and engineering by planning and preparing drawings for construction of new, and removal or rearrangement of existing fiber optic and conduits utilizing OSPInSight software
  • Obtain necessary information from AT&T, water, sewer, municipalities and others to design proper routes in OSPI
  • Complete the required forms to file permit requests for burial and aerial installations
  • Work closely with inside and outside engineers to develop future target growth
  • Provide support to engineers and field personnel in all aspects of project documentation
  • Assist with inquiries from other department personnel regarding plant information including fiber availability as well as distance verification
  • Occasional Travel to gather information and file permitting
  • Prepare detailed “As Built" drawings via OSPI software
  • Provide updates to Texas811 on a monthly, or as required, basis
  • Update the LOGIX Communications fiber network maps as we continue to expand our network

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Must have a thorough understanding of GIS database structures and implementations
  • 2 years of OSPI experience or recent graduate of GIS program
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Understand routing of utilities and placement techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, contractors, and municipalities
  • Advanced knowledge and ability to develop (City, State, Rail) permitting
  • Previous Telecommunications Industry and fiber experience is a must
  • Detail oriented with strong verbal, organizational, and follow-up skills

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak clearly and professionally and listen effectively. Standing and walking for long periods are necessary and walking up and down stairs. Position entails some occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.). Some occasional travel is possible.
