Fiber Locate Technician

(Must live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metropolitan Area)

Job Summary:

The Fiber Locate Technician is responsible for locating and protecting all LOGIX buried fiber optic cable underground facilities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and Prioritize 811 One Call tickets/ Call-Before-You Dig via KorWeb
  • Map work locations via Google Earth .KMZ and OSP Insight
  • Locate Logix fiber using provided locate equipment
  • Marking the area with proper color paint, flags, and markings
  • QC Logix construction projects to verify underground work is to Logix spec.
  • Locate Technician must provide up to date ticket status
  • Constant Monitoring of new/ongoing construction activity near LOGIX fiber
  • Responsible for interfacing with other departments to aid with problem resolution and installation process improvements
  • Locate technician must respond to emergency locate requests 24 hours per day, 365-day year.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Utility locating experience required
  • Ability to define problem(s), define seriousness of problem(s), collect data, and establish facts
  • Maintain positive attitude towards co-workers and customers
  • Effective time management
  • Must have valid motor vehicle operator’s license and a responsible driving record

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or General Education Degree. Must have equivalent experience in the Telecommunications industry. Utility locating experience required. Working knowledge of computers and ability to learn Korweb ticket database.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak clearly and hear. Standing and walking are also necessary, as well as sitting at a desk. This also entails climbing ladders of various heights, stooping, reaching, and lifting of heavy objects.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.

Work Environment:

Maintain forty (40) hours per week performance level, plus additional hours as job requires. On-call for after hours and emergency response will be required. Outside environment ranging from below 32 degrees to high temperatures over 105 degrees. Work environment also sometimes consists of electrical hazards (voltage). Must be able to park a Logix Communications branded company truck at your residence.
