The Accountant is expected to take ownership of certain close processes and ensure information is received, processed, and analyzed timely. Responsibilities also include various deliverables related to monthly/quarterly close and internal reporting as well as external auditor deliverables. The Accountant will also be involved in various cross-functional projects in support of process and internal controls improvement initiatives. A successful Accountant combines strong analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and budget/forecasts.
Essential Functions:
- Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure. Prepare journal entries for the month-end close. Analyze the monthly financial statement for variances to prior period (actuals) and vs. current period budget/forecast.
- Collaborates with the finance and various operation department managers to support overall department goals and objectives.
- Complete various account reconciliations after each month-end close and perform additional analysis based on the results of the reconciliations. Identify reconciling items and prepare adjustments.
- Ensuring timely and accurate monthly / quarterly close in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
- Assist in the internal/external audit process to ensure compliance.
- Other special projects as assigned.
Required Knowledge:
- BA/BS in Accounting, Required
- CPA strongly preferred
TECHNICAL SKILLS AND PRIOR EXPERIENCE
- Three to five years of general ledger accounting experience in a midsize company environment and/ or public accounting experience.
- Proficient knowledge of Great Plains preferred
- Experience in telecommunication / fiber network business, preferred
- Strong analytical skills with a sound understanding of accounting principles.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced/growing environment while maintaining adequate attention to details.
- Ability to organize and prioritize job responsibilities to meet deadlines in an environment with overlapping and potentially conflicting priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel - Advanced level Excel skills (pivot tables, v-look ups)
- Maintain honesty and integrity in all circumstances.
- Professional and effective oral and written communication skills.
