Job Summary:
As a Fiber Optic Splicer/Inspector, the role primarily involves working with single-mode fiber optic cables, including various types such as armored and dielectric, up to 432 count. They are proficient in reading fiber schematics and splicing schemes, as well as calculating fiber attenuation values. Their responsibilities encompass completing service order tasks related to building conversions, field assignments, and optical equipment. They assist in fiber installation and splicing both outdoors and indoors, including in tight spaces and above raised ceilings. Additionally, they participate in cut-over activities alongside other field technicians, ensuring seamless transitions in fiber optic installations.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Works primality with Single-mode fiber optic cables up to 432 count, loose tube both armored and dielectric.
- Reads fiber schematics and fiber splicing schemes.
- Calculates fiber attenuation values.
- Completes all service order related tasks including, but not necessarily limited to: building conversions, all plant field assignments, fiber cable assignments, Optical equipment assignments, etc.
- Assists in fiber installation and splicing from the handhole or manhole to the building.
- Assists with fiber installation inside buildings in tight spaces and above raised ceilings and in risers.
- Participates with other field techs for all cut-over activity.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Should be familiar with various data switches, routers, fiber panels, splice closures and fiber connectors to include APC/UPC – SC/LC connectors.
- Must have the ability to drive a full-size Logix branded bucket truck and be able to park at your home in a secure location. Bucket truck will be on site 7 days a week.
- Must be able to work in high spaces, in a bucket up to 40’.
- Must be able to learn all aspects of the job by on-the-job training, attending seminars/vocational schools or classes, reading instruction manuals, etc., for the position.
- Knowledge of plant operations, schematics, cost, longevity or facilities.
- Must have a good comprehension of telephone etiquette and office protocol.
- Must have good organizational and coordinating skills.

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED), preferred college degree in telecommunications.
- Five-years telecommunication experience in field work required.
- Five years both inside plant and outside plant fusion splicing required.
- OTDR experience required with reading and creating trace routes, identifying and calculating fiber splice loses, and end-to-end fiber testing. Should also know how to identify faults using an OTDR. Should be familiar with light sources and fiber optic power reading test sets.
- Fiber installation, fiber splicing (fusion and mechanical) and optical equipment experience is required.
- Manhole, handhole and conduit system design and construction experience is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak clearly and hear. Sitting, standing and walking are necessary. The ability to lift up to 75 pounds is required. The ability to work in confined spaces is required.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
